HopfenHöhle - The Original
HopfenHöhle is an outdoor hidden beer cooler that simply works by good old soil-cooling system. This is possible due to lower temperatures in the ground which chill your beer to drinking temperature. Best of all: It works without any electricity! Depending on soil and season your beer cools to 8-10°C. Climate neutral!
How the installation works
All you need for your HopfenHöhle is a small patch of garden or terrace and a 20cm wide and 95cm deep hole. The easiest way to dig the hole for your new underground beer cooler is renting an auger drill. Before you start digging, please make sure there are no electric or other underground cables in the area. HopfenHöhle prefers a shady spot to grant better cooling. A planting pot could help as well!
When your hole is ready, just put in the stable cladding tube. The tube has a watertight bottom, so no vermin or water can get inside, and a so-called flotation control, so that the beer cooler will not pop-up in the case of high water. After having installed the tube, fill-up the rest of the hole with soil and wash it in with water to make sure the flotation control gets fixed. Please repeat this until the hole is filled-up. A vacuum will make sure that your HopfenHöhle stays firmly in the ground.
Your tube is now fixed, it is time to put in your favourite beer! Just take the bottle-holder which holds 15 bottles. Almost all kind of bottles fit into the holder and sizes may vary from 0,25 - 0,5 l. PET and small wine bottles, water or lemonade bottles even cans fit in the bottle holder, simply give it a try! Now you can lower the holder into the tube. If you own a HopfenHöhle LIFT simply insert the LIFT in the bottom of the tube, put the holder onto the damper and push it down. Then push and turn until it gets locked in the tube. READY!
Putting the HopfenHöhle into operation
Now you can close the HopfenHöhle with the thermally insulated lid made of UV-resistant plastic. The sealing ring in the tube ensures that your HopfenHöhle remains tight and no vermin can get in. Simply remove the valve in the lid, insert the lid and replace the valve. This keeps the HopfenHöhle tightly sealed and, if installed correctly, you can mow over it with a lawn mower, for example. To open the lid, it is best to remove the valve first, then the lid can be easily removed.
Which HopfenHöhlen type are you?
We offer three different versions: All come with a 95 cm long and 20 cm wide cladding tube made from weather-resistant plastic, a solid bottle-holder with for 15 bottles and UV-resistant lid. You even don’t have to look for a bottle opener as it is already included - for free!
HopfenHöhle - the manual version: the bottle-holder has to be pulled up manually – just by manpower. As it has a strong handle you can easily manage to pull the holder out of the tube and provide your best mates with chilled beer. If you're the sporty type and want to impress your party guests with your muscle power, this version is just right for you.
The HopfenHöhle LIFT has an automatic lifting system. The plastic bottle holder is designed for a total of 15 bottles or cans. With a twist, you release the lock and the bottle holder moves out of the tube and you can easily remove your beer. This is done with the help of a gas damper - and all without electricity!
